Loop Jammer
Loop Jammer is a side project I started on about a year ago which has been on a bit of a back burner for a few months. The idea is to create a digital audio workstation in a browser where users can come and configure instruments, samples, effects and use them to create music and songs. What sets this app apart from all of the other apps in this space is the social aspect. The goal is to encourage musicians to collaborate by building a github style branch and merge system, but for songs. Set your song to collab mode and anyone can clone it, make changes and send a PR to the owner to request to merge it into the song. If accepted, the merger becomes a co-creator and the process starts again.
Users will also have access to some fairly typical social features such as message boards, sharing songs, instrument settings etc, up/down voting, but the USP is squarely around the musical collaboration features.
The tech stack is Next.js using MongoDB and graphQL. The audio engine is powered by Tone.js and the UI is ShadCN. You can check out the code on Github and there is an early deploy HERE. The big issue is there is a huge amount of work to do to bring this idea to life, as well as a lot of development decisions to be made, and this is the reason it has ended up stagnating.
So, in a bid to get this across the line I'm looking out for collaborators. If you take a look at the collaborate section of this site there is a section for this project, so if you feel like this is something you want to get involved with building, please drop me a message.
Don't worry if you don't have a huge amount of experience as there will be issues and features to handle for all levels of ability and experience. In particular if you are very new to coding like a recent boot camp graduate, one thing that will make you stand out to potential employers is contributing to open source projects like this one. Working in a software team is a very different way of working to building apps on your own, so this would be valuable experience for people wanting to break into tech.
So if this sounds like you, what are you waiting for? Drop me a message and lets create something awesome!
